Promoting the Sustainable Development of Rural EFL Learners’ Email Literacy through a Facebook Project

Promoting the sustainable development of rural EFL students’ English ability is a vital issue in general curriculum guidelines Taiwan’s 12-Year Basic Education. This study aimed to investigate effects Facebook project on developing learners’ email literacy English. There were two participant groups: (1) six university majors and (2) 12 ninth-graders from junior high school. The instruments included multiple-choice awareness task (MCT), written discourse completion (WDCT), perception questionnaire, interviews, teaching journals. students first received training session literacy, then they taught invitation email-writing through interactions for eight weeks. results showed that after project, made significant improvements when completing MCT. As quality their emails, not only scored significantly higher post-test but also qualitative progress emails. Furthermore, both groups had positive perceptions this indicated strengths weaknesses participation. paper concludes with pedagogical implications education Taiwan.
